As of this date, no schedule has been set for production, nor have any stars been attached. Whether it will be made is hard to say. The rights to the film are owned by New Line Cinema and Mark Johnson (My Dog Skip, Galaxy Quest) is the producer. Though the attempt at adapting the film is now in it's sixth year, Johnson has assured Nicholas that he intends to make the film. Essentially, the problems with the script are due to the fact that there are two time periods, and it's difficult to mesh them in a way that not only stays true to the novel, but will please theater audiences. Also, there is a need to increase the dramatic tension in the earlier part of the film, again while still remaining true to the novel. It's a difficult balancing act.
