I've heard that Ashley Judd is going to star in the film version of The Notebook. I've also heard that Tom Cruise or Steven Spielberg are working on it. Is that true?

At one time, all of those names were linked to the project, and Ashley Judd did accept the offer to play the role of Allie. However, due to the strike last year, scheduling conflicts, and continuing script revisions, she had to drop out. Both Steven and Tom look long looks at the project but decided to pass. None of the above are currently attached to the project.
