True Believer is the second of Nicholas’s novels, after The Guardian, to be primarily derived from his imagination. Though no family members inspired this story, Lexie Darnell, the main female protagonist, is largely modeled after his wife. True Believer is the story of Jeremy Marsh, a columnist for Scientific American and freelance debunker who lives in New York City, and Lexie Darnell, a small town librarian who lives in Boone Creek, North Carolina.
