Week of 4 February 2002
I mentioned in the last weekly update that I'd hoped to finish my latest novel "within the next few days." Unfortunately, it didn't work out the way I'd hoped, and I'm still working on Nights in Rodanthe. There was a problem in the set-up of the story that had been gnawing at me and it necessitated rewriting portions of the manuscript. Most of the week was spent "re-writing" as opposed to finishing up the story. But I'm getting close now. Maybe next week, I'll have better news to report on that front. You can rest assured though that it will be published on schedule.
A Walk to Remember grossed $8.8 million over the Super-Bowl weekend, and is still holding strong.
And finally, I traveled to Notre Dame to formally launch the scholarship and fellowship program my wife and I instituted for the creative writing students who attend the school. Spending time with those young writers brought back a lot of fond memories, and I'd like to wish them all success in their endeavors.
